European languages are entirely different from Japanese or Chinese writing. It's tough to learn even those basic characters.

Japanese people use two different writing systems: Katakana (和文) and Romaji (ロマジャ).

The first one is used to write words from foreign languages or when we don't know how to write some words in romaji.

While the second one is mainly used to type out romaji instead of handwriting it.

The Kanji (漢字, Kanji) are the logographic characters used in Japanese writing.

They are also known as Chinese characters or kana-kanji.

The term "Chinese" is usually reserved for the pinyin romanisation of Mandarin and other varieties of Chinese, while "Japanese" refers to all types of written Japanese regardless of their origin.

Hiragana, also known as is a Japanese syllabary used to write the hanja in Japan.

It was developed from Chinese characters by adding diacritics and simplifying them. Hiragana are written vertically on top of each.
